SOCIAL ACTION

We believe that we must “walk our talk,” so Social Action is when we can do hands-on volunteer work or support those who do. Each volunteer's time, talent, and treasure make these projects successful, leading to a tangible impact in our community.

In 2023-2024, we:

  • Collected and donated approximately 250 coats, 32 pairs of boots and shoes, 10 snow pants, and 25 BAGS of gloves, hats, scarves, and miscellaneous items for the Hope Center in Waukesha. (coordinated by Michol Ford)

  • Donated approximately 35 "abandoned" clean & pressed shirts from the cleaners to the Hope Center in Waukesha. (coordinated by Michol Ford)

  • In collaboration with the Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County, three Waukesha families received gifts for 9 children, plus each family received a $75 Target gift card.

  • At the Annual Bood Drive on June 5, 2023, 21 units of blood were collected, which helped 55 potential patients. The drive goal was 22 units, so we were only ONE UNIT short.

  • 100 bagged lunches were prepared for people served by the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary in Milwaukee (after service on April 28, 2024).

  • Collected and donated diapers, toilet paper, and period products for people served by the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary.

  • Collected over 140+ personal toiletry items, such as toothbrushes and soap, donated to the Hope Center and the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary. (tracked by Susan Bergmann.)

  • Collected hundreds of non-perishable items for the Waukesha Food Pantry throughout the year, including fulfilling Dona Lundin’s own birthday wish.

  • Member Sandy Zingler collects bakery items from the Mukwonago Pick n’ Save and distributes them to St Vincent de Paul or Waukesha-area service agencies and homeless shelters. Sandy usually collects and delivers the items weekly, often daily.

  • Collected 9 suitcases and 10 backpacks for area organizations and MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary.

  • Several congregation members attended and/or volunteered to make the second SOPHIA Multi-Cultural Fair successful. UUUC shared a table with other Waukesha County Unitarian Universalist Congregations.
